High-resolution bioprinting

Simon Sayer and Aleksandr Ovsianikov, UpNano 2024

The demand for high-definition bioprinting to replicate the complex structures of tissues and organs is rapidly growing.

Over the last two decades, significant strides have been made in the field of HD bioprinting. Researchers have made substantial progress in enhancing multiphoton lithography (MPL)-based bioprinting, leading to a range of promising applications in areas such as drug testing, tissue engineering and organs-on-a-chip. The high resolution of MPL usually comes with a comparatively low throughput. However, recent innovations such as Adaptive Resolution, which permits the dynamic adjustment of the resolution, along with advanced software solutions like the Plate Dock which automatizes the printing in a variety of cell culture substrates, and advancements in highly efficient biocompatible materials, are pushing the field of HD bioprinting forward.
